7 Days to Die server configuration

Configure difficulty, blood-moon frequency, XP gain and loot for a 7 Days to Die dedicated server.

7 Days to Die runs on the Unity engine and has two dozen tunables in serverconfig.xml. Here are the ones that matter most.

Difficulty values

  • 0 — Scavenger (easy)
  • 1 — Adventurer
  • 2 — Nomad (default)
  • 3 — Warrior
  • 4 — Survivalist
  • 5 — Insane

Blood moon

BloodMoonFrequency = number of in-game days between hordes. Drop to 5 for frantic play, raise to 10 for casual co-op.

Performance

7DTD is CPU-bound on a single core. Extreme VPS (Ryzen 9 9950X) handles 16-player servers smoothly; Budget VPS struggles past 8.

Mods

Use Darkness Falls or Ravenhearst for overhauls. Install via /Mods/ folder — both server and every client need identical mods.
